RC Door Entrance Wayfinding Project proposed by Momo. original proposal text here: https://pad.riseup.net/p/gUZVoxB7FwzZRaRhQp6W RC Door Entrance Wayfinding Project Proposed by: Momo Proposal History Submitted: [2026.10.13] Voted: [2026.10.13] Result: [Consensus Reached] [Blocked] [Resubmitting]Problems / Motivations Problems/Movitation:      1. Passersby and those first encountering RC do not have a general understanding of the space, its principles, or how to get involved. Although the wiki provides this information, it becomes a point of friction for those who just need a brief orientation of what the space does and what its entry points are. 2. The way to enter the space is unclear. The doorbell, centered in the middle of the doorway, often gets pressed unintentionally and disturbs the gym. There is no indication of whether it is for the gym or another space. 3. People who are looking for shelter, are houseless, or are seeking a third space or a social service have come through the space. Neighbors have come through looking for job assistance; a disabled legal adult who claimed to be a minor running away from home sought overnight shelter and was severely underfed; and many long-running members of the space have sought to know what other organizations they could depend on for care. 4. Folks from other orgs often come through to promote their events, and flyers are placed in a dark corner with limited table space. The other option has been to repopulate the flyer wall, which had months-old flyers and felt cluttered. 5. Internal event organizers have expressed confusion about where to promote their events effectively. Participation at many externally facing events is consistently low, and we do not have a method or protocol to support organizers if needed. 6. At the last All Hands, a competent set of newcomers with great ideas and tons of energy (not making this up) were not met with the guidance they couldve used to further get involved in the space. They were very interested in governance ideation, and the meeting was designed for deliberation instead. Proposal Overview Redesign the current information display at the entrance and right after entering the space so newcomers are informed about what the space is and who it's for. Encourage repeated intentional visits. Support event promotion and increase turnout so that the space can continue to sustain itself. 1st Points of Contact (before entering) A doorway with three labeled doorbells installed on the side of the door. A display case with dedicated space for events, both recurring and special. 2nd Point of Contact (after entering) A designated area on the Pantry Fridge for newcomers to orient themselves with the space. It’s close to the entrance, magnetic, and large enough to hold all the information in one place, and it won’t need to be readable while Pantry is in use. The first fridge would be dedicated to Pantry organizing info, the center fridge to general RC info, and the third to miscellaneous flyering. The center fridge would provide a space for folks entering for the first time. It could include: A link to the wiki and website RC ethos Pools link Working Groups list + how to join each + short description + their charter?  Admin Groups list + nature of the meetings (for example: deliberative, not suggested for newcomers or ideative, open to all) A list of resources, including other mutual aid orgs, shelters, library job search resources, housing resources, and free legal advice An index of RC’ers available for quick questions in a stated area of expertise Emergency contacts Reference Imagery Display Case (refer to the first image only): Facade Display Case Layout Sketches https://wiki.ridgewoodcommons.nyc/books/comms-home/page/facade-display-case-layout-sketches Doorbell Pantry Fridge: Pantry Fridge Layout Sketches https://wiki.ridgewoodcommons.nyc/books/comms-home/page/pantry-fridge-layout-sketches Who This Affects Pantry, Gym, Yoga (doorbell), any group that could use a reliable and well-labeled doorbell. All groups could likely benefit from information display. Work Required 1. Building the doorbell rig (in progress) 2. Setting up a digital tool to print the main schedule at poster size 3. Consistently replacing the poster-sized schedule 4. Keeping the center fridge information organized and up-to-date with weekly/monthly checkups 5. Pantry folks: not much else, the info would just be in one place instead of splayed across multiple fridges People Doing the Labor Momo and whoever else wants to join Money Required No.
